Peanut Butter and Banana, My Place, NJ

Peanut Butter and Banana/7 Grain bread/$n/a

Bread-5/10
This bread is from work (I'm a lunch lady) it's not bad at all. It has a subtle taste of honey to it. But the bread I used for this sandwich wasn't fresh, it was frozen for months, defrosted and then toasted. Still not bad though.

Not Beef-5/5
The banana I used for this was at perfect ripeness. Brown spots on the peel. Fabulous conditions for the consumption of a banana.

Peanut butter-4/5
The peanut butter on this was also from work. It is smuckers from the little packages, not bad. It is creamy peanut butter. If I had my way it would have been chunky peanut butter.

Flavor-9/10
This peanut butter and banana sandwich is rather delightful. I should definitely spend more time eating these things. They're great.

Misc.-4/5
I'm giving this one a 4 because it inspired me to make myself a vegetarian "Elvis" in the future. For those of you that don't know what an "Elvis" is, it was Elvis Presley's favorite sandwich, basically a peanut butter and banana sandwich with BACON. Yes, BACON. No wonder he got all fat. But if you simply replace it with Morningstar Bacon Strips (I find this to be the best veggie alternative) you're safe from heart attacks on the toilet. I will definitely review the Elvis when I get around to it.

Eggplant Parm, Hoagie Haven, NJ

Eggplant Parmesan/L,T,O/Half/$4.00

Bread-5-
Bread wasn't much to speak of. However, it did the job.

Not Beef-5-
The eggplant was delicious on this one. In the past Hoagie Haven's eggplant wasn't up to snuff with their neighbor across the street (Zorba's, review coming soon..) I think perhaps they saw "Not Beef Sandwich" from a mile away.

Cheese/sauce-3-
The cheese was practically non-existent. But the tomato sauce complimented the eggplant very well.

Flavor-7-
This sandwich hit the spot. The tomato was delicious and the onions and lettuce were refreshing. It wasn't overly flavorful, in the future I may get hot sauce on it as well, definitely could have used a little bit of a kick.

Misc.-3-
I was starving before I got to this one, perhaps I was a bit biased. Hoagie Haven's eggplant parms are definitely lacking without the lettuce, tomato and onion. In the past I've also had jalapeno's on it and it did the trick. It was good for an eggplant parm hoagie, but I wouldn't recommend a lone eggplant parm sandwich from Hoagie Haven, there are better ones nearby.

The Rating System

After ruthless debate, hours of discussion and some copy/pasting from our competitor blog "Hot Beef Sandwich", the Not Beef Sandwich team have created a point system that will be applied to every sandwich experience.

This point system includes 5 basic categories:

1) Bread 1-10

Since bread was concluded to be the most important part of the sandwich, we gave this category a 10 point scale. This part of the sandwich can make it or break it.

2) Not Beef 1-5

"Not Beef" signifies the central ingredient of the sandwich, whether it is a veggie burger, fried eggplant or mozzarella sticks. The quality and the quantity are taken into account.

3) Cheese or dressing 1-5

This can apply to the cheese on the sandwich or the other less solid ingredients like sauces or dressings.

4) Flavor 1-10

The flavor category refers to not only the general taste of the sandwich but also the freshness of any other ingredients that were included (whole ear of corn, whole eggplant or whole carrot stick for example)

5) Miscellaneous 1-5

Was it huge? Was it wet and soggy? Was it relatively inexpensive? The points in this category are awarded for whatever reason the judge can justify. If the sandwich had no outstanding features or was dissatisfying, it gets no points in this category.

Ladies and gentlemen, that is the 5 pillar, 35 point Not Beef Sandwich adjudication system.
